God is Never Late

January 29, 2009
(Date the post was started... but never published til today)

You know I've heard this saying before... many times. And I've always believed it to be true, but just this past week, it has been ever so much true! I think the whole saying is that God is never early or late, but He's always on time. (or something like that)

Well, as you know (perhaps) we've been praying about a "new" vehicle for our growing family. Our "mini" van is too MINI for 5 children who still use carseats or boosters. It will only seat seven if the majority are not in carseats! So, we've been looking around and praying for some time. We could not purchase something NEW, and we didn't really want to. So we were looking at older SUVs or conversion vans. We weren't really interested in taking the leap to the 15 passenger van... yet!

Anyway, God led us to a 1993 Chevy Suburban that has been owned by a couple of JAARS families. We knew it was well taken care of, and probably mechanically in as good condition as a new one or slightly used one. So back in the fall, Dano asked the current owner if he'd be interested in selling it to us. He was... and for a great price especially considering it had a fairly new engine, transmission, & tires! However, we didn't have the money then. So Dano asked if he'd hold it til we were able to pay him. We knew we had til March when the Baby is due. So we prayed for God's provision and waited and waited and waited. As the new year approached, we began to discuss taking out a loan to pay for the SUV. Well, we hated the idea of going into debt. We don't think it is a sin, but God sure does a lot of warning about it! Therefore, we just steer clear of buying things on credit, etc. However, March seemed to be quickly approaching. We wanted to go ahead and get the vehicle and be ready, but we just didn't have the funds yet.

One morning last week as Dano prayed, he was impressed with a certain "revelation." Not being sure what to think about it, he went on about his day. Later in the day when he checked the mail, we had our statement from MMS for what our January paycheck would be. On that statement was a gift from a donor that has enabled us to purchase our SUV for the agreed upon price ($3500) without going into debt! We picked it up yesterday! Yea! (The price is an even better deal before because it now also has a new rear axle.) The family who sold it to us blessed us tremendously! In the end, I don't think they've made any money off of it. Can you say a prayer to bless this family for their generosity?

The gift also enabled us to go ahead and purchase a new computer! With the expertise of the IT dept at JAARS, I was able to knowledgably & confidently purchase a new computer online at an extremely low price, as well! As you are well aware, our 5 year old computer has been giving us quite the fit the last 6 months or so! It is truly on its last leg! This is huge blessing to our ministry! This was an answer to our prayers!

So, just as we were wondering what do we do... "How will we pay for this vehicle?" "How can we manage to get a new computer?" God showed up and showed us how!

The ONLY way this is possible is by the generosity of our partners! God sometimes impresses on the hearts of people to give special gifts or monthly gifts! It amazes me how God ALWAYS provides what we need! Some months we wonder how we'll make it til the next paycheck, BUT we ALWAYS do! Some months we are amazed how God provides our present needs and future ones! We always strive to be good stewards of what He gives us. I'm so thankful that Dano makes sure everything is paid, and we put some away if there is a surplus. God works it out... through His people!

I LOVE to be a part of God orchestrating this symphany! He is so faithful... even when there seems to be a drought... I know the rain is coming. Okay, so I'm mixing metaphors there, but God is good. Thank YOU for your faithfulness to provide for us so that we can serve full-time and speed Bible Translation. You are a HUGE part of that. Financial gifts AND PRAYERS make our service possible! Thank you!!

Love,
Melinda and gang
